No! Not the "presents"...
The other day I mentioned my dear friend who lost his daughter last week (Love You). I had the pleasure of sitting with him this morning and it really affected the way I look at the grieving process and what we (the remaining) can do to help. I hadn't even seen him at the funeral, which was very well attended amongst her working friends and family. That being said, he told me, and the other men in our group, that it made all the difference in the world to him that we were there for him.
Too frequently I (we?) shy away from difficult situations such as a death because we just don't know what to say to the affected ones. It turns out that the best thing I could have done for my friend is to be there for him in his time of need. Perhaps I needed to feel good about myself after reading my buddy Brandon's introspective about how wrapped up we are about ourselves (or was he really writing about me?), but I thought it was a good life lesson to share...
